Frequently asked questions
What happens to my data?
Your uploaded video is automatically deleted as soon as your subtitles are generated —
we don't retain it and we don't back it up. Your subtitle file (.srt) stays available for
you to download until you delete the job. We never sell or share your content, and your video is only
ever used to produce your subtitles.
Which languages can you translate?
We translate Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese audio into English subtitles. You can pick the source language or let us auto-detect it.
What files can I upload?
Common video and audio formats — .mp4, .mov, .mkv,
.mp3 and more. For large files you can paste a OneDrive or SharePoint share link instead
of uploading. You always get back a standard .srt subtitle file.
How do I use the .srt file in VLC?
Open your video in VLC, then drag the .srt file onto the VLC window — or use
Subtitle → Add Subtitle File…. Tip: if the .srt sits in the same folder
as the video with the same name (e.g. movie.mp4 + movie.srt), VLC loads it
automatically. It also works in most other players.
How accurate is it, and how long does it take?
Subtitles are generated by AI transcription and translation — accuracy is comparable to leading machine-translation tools, and we recommend a quick review before publishing. Turnaround depends on how much speech is in your file; most clips are ready within minutes, and we email you when it's done.
Can I use Lucidsub without a subscription?
Yes — you can try one video free, up to 10 minutes (100 MB), with no card and no subscription. To translate more or longer videos you choose a paid plan; there's no lock-in and you can cancel any time.
Which payment methods do you accept?
We accept major credit and debit cards — Visa, Mastercard and American Express — processed securely by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them.
How am I charged if I exceed my limit?
You're never hit with surprise overage fees. Lucidsub uses simple monthly plans — when you reach your included hours, new jobs are paused rather than billed extra. To keep going, upgrade your plan (the change is prorated automatically) or wait for your hours to reset at the next billing cycle.
What happens when I reach my plan limit?
Any jobs already running finish normally. New uploads are paused until your monthly hours reset at the start of your next billing period — or until you upgrade to a plan with more hours. Your account, your history and your previously generated subtitles all stay accessible.
